| The Common Bond 08 17u team ended the summer on a high note. Avg. 78 points per game and winning all of their games in different fashion was a testament to their commitment to each other and the program. The team was led by prep school attendee Jon Lee former Flint Carmen Ainsworth star. He only led the team once in scoring but his leadership on the floor with 5.4 apg is what allowed this team to go a perfect 6-0 in this tournament. Austin Fowler did most of his work inside controlling the boards and finishing around the basket, including a tip in for a last second win in the semi's. He led the team with a 10.1 ppg avg. and also 8.4 rebounds. Jake Wild, Brett Smith and Tim Dezelski kept the middle open for penetration and inside looks with their 3 point barrage, and when they got hot it was huge swing toward victory. Tim also led the team in steals, and blocks, and 3 point %. Mike Martin was the teams best athletic threat and got out on the break well making the opposition pay with his high flying dunks and moves around the basket. Mike also had many good passes to keep the pressure on the defense. Vinnie Boyd was another player that did many good things in the open court as well as making some defensive plays to turn games around. Mike and Vinnie also had some nice conversions on 3 point shooting in timely situations. Jake Mantel (not pictured) played a consistent game the first day but had other commitments and was not there for the tournament run. This was a great team effort on both ends of the floor, and some great decision making, as well as crutial plays. With an overtime win, a last second tip in and 3 blow outs when things were clicking they never lost focus of the things that needed to be done next to win. Without their best scoring player and option (Anthony Manno), this team came to compete and work together to get the job done. Well done guys! Coach Lee |
